CAPE TOWN - The ANC calls upon all the mining authorities and stakeholders to up their sleeves and employ all available resources to ensure mine safety.

ANC's signal comes after reports of tragic deaths of two miners at the Impala Platinum mine on 19 September 2017. Demise of these workers follows the loss of five workers in Kusasalethu mine early this month.

"It has been and remains an unambiguous objective of the ANC that we create safe and decent working conditions for mine workers. The avoidable deaths reported in the industry fly in the face of this objective and require drastic action by all stakeholders to eliminate fatalities and injuries," ANC statement reads.

The ANC has further called on government to use all means at its disposal to pressure the industry to correct the defects and adopt all necessary safeguards deal to these senseless deaths. Fatalities and injuries must be eliminated within the timeframes agreed by the industry.

The party has also sent condolences to the families of the workers who died in the mine tragic incidents. ANC is expecting government, mining companies concerned and the industry on its entirety to comfort and support the families in grief.
