DURBAN - The BRICS Business Council hosted a Welcome Gala Dinner at the Durban ICC on Sunday evening. 

Present at the event were the BRICS Business Council representatives from the different countries as well as the Chairman of BRICS Business Council Dr Iqbal Survé. 

Representing KwaZulu-Natal government was the Acting Premier of the province and the MEC for Economic Development Sihle Zikalala as well as the Deputy Mayor of Durban Fawzia Peer and the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works. 

MEC for Finance for Belinda Scott who was also at the event welcomed the BRICS Business Council representatives. She said It is a great honour to host the BRICS Business Council and we welcome you to our province and country".  

Scott added that the gathering of BRICS is getting bigger that makes us hopeful of more opportunities. 

Dr Iqbal Survé also took the stage to welcome the BRICS Business Council 

The Chairman highlighted that 2018 marks what would have Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday. He said, "We stand in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela and Inkosi Albert Luthuli. People have not had access to benefits of the global economy. We play the role between building the bridges between these two things".

Survé  further said, "Today we are trying to change the trajectory of South Africa Africa and have great hope that new development bank will provide the support that we need to grow our economy."  

Acting Premier of KZN and the MEC for Economic Development Sihle Zikalala representing KZN government delivered the keynote address at the dinner.

This evening is about reconnecting and exchanging notes and reminding each other about the things that we have in common said Zikalala.
