Durban to host a Youth Employability Indaba and KZN Career Expo

DURBAN - Durban Mayor Zandile Gumede officially launched the Youth Employability Indaba and KZN Career Expo which will take place in Durban. 

According to Gumede, the event has been designed to empower the youth so that they can better their lives in the future. Gumede said, "Investing in youth development is crucial if we want to see the economic development landscape being changed in the eThekwini Municipality area".

The Mayor was joined by Councillor Barbara Fortein as well as the CEO of the Durban ICC Lindiwe Rakharebe and Akash Bramdeo, the Editor of the Daily News. 

The Durban ICC and Independent Media are partnering with the eThekwini Municipality for this event. 

This project that has been taken up by the municipality will be a three-day event. The Youth Employability Indaba and KZN Career Expo will take place between the 24th and 26th of May and will be held at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

In KwaZulu-Natal, there are 4 million young people between the ages of 15-34. Of that number 1,1 million is still in high school and the rest are out of school looking for job opportunities. 

This indaba and career expo will give the youth of this province the opportunity to engage with tertiary institutions for university hopefuls and help people looking for jobs to connect with the private sector. 

Aakash Bramdeo, Editor of the Daily News said that they will be supporting the municipality's project as well host their own three-day conference. 

This indaba will include things like Conversation Corner, where young people will have the opportunity to meet KZN heroes, a Career Guidance and Opportunity Conference and a Self Improvement Workshop. 

The Durban Mayor encouraged both parents and teachers to bring young people to the event. 

This event will: 

- Help the youth learn about different career opportunities 

- Allow young people to empower themselves through skills development so that they can become entrepreneurs  

- Give young people access to information about graduate recruitment, job opportunities, and bursaries.
