Rustenburg - A mineworker died following a fall of ground accident at Lonmin mine's operations in Marikana near Rustenburg, the company said on Monday.
“Lonmin regrets to announce the death of Mr Siphilo Makhende following a fall of ground accident on Saturday morning, 2 July 2016 at the E3 shaft at the company's operations,” Lonmin said.
“Makhende, a rock drill operator, was taken to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning, July 3.”
Lonmin said an investigation into the accident had begun in conjunction with the Department of Mineral Resources and unions.
Makhende's relatives in the Eastern Cape have been informed and the company personnel were providing them with support. - AFRICAN NEWS AGENCY
