Murray & Roberts will establish a permanent presence in Mozambique from next month as part of its strategy to expand its operations on the African continent to take advantage of mining, energy and infrastructure opportunities. This follows the listed construction and engineering group establishing operations in Ghana and Zambia in the past two years. Group chief executive Henry Laas said yesterday that Murray & Roberts saw enormous opportunity for the group in the mining and energy sectors across the continent and was already gaining substantial traction in these markets. “We are using the innovation, skills and expertise gained in other countries to position us as market leaders on the African continent,” he said. Laas stressed that this did not mean the group would dilute its commitment to and presence in South Africa. – Roy Cokayne
