Johannesburg - The chief executive of Sun International, Graeme Stephens, would be leaving the group at the end of April to take up another opportunity, the South African hotel and gambling group said on Friday.

Stephens has been with Sun International for more than five years and under his watch the business has been restructured and has exited its non-core African assets.

Stephens will be replaced by Anthony Leeming, the current chief financial officer, who will take over with effect from May 1.

The group said the major focus now was the construction of Time Square at Menlyn Maine and this was on track for the casino to open in early April, prior to Stephens’ departure.

The appointment of a new chief financial officer is still to be announced.

Sun International shares gained 0.29 percent on Friday to close at R83.50 on the JSE.
