Telecoms: Ericsson, DStv Mobile team up

Ericsson and DStv Mobile, a business of Naspers-owned pay-TV broadcaster MultiChoice, have launched mobile television in Mozambique. The service involves the streaming of content to 6 million MCel subscribers using Ericsson’s content delivery server. The line-up includes sports, news, music, general entertainment and children’s programming. Ericsson said yesterday that it had provided the platform and infrastructure to anchor mobile television. DStv Mobile provided the content. Large video files create a bottleneck in cellular networks, but Ericsson said it had devised a solution to deliver video content at different quality levels. – Asha Speckman
