Times Media: Van Schaik unit buys Juta shiops

Juta and Company will sell its Juta Bookshops retail operation to Van Schaik Booksellers, a business of Times Media Group. Juta is building its position as a leading provider of legal and regulatory information and student textbooks and focusing on technology-enabled learning and information solutions. “While book retailing remains an important distribution channel for Juta publications, it is no longer a strategic imperative for Juta to continue to own this part of the value chain,” said Lynne du Toit, the chief executive of Juta and Company. The transaction is subject to the approval of the competition authorities. Juta is a subsidiary of Kagiso Media, which surged 10.53 percent to R22.99 yesterday.
