DURBAN - Africa's Tourism Indaba highlighted the upcoming tourist attractions that South Africans can look forward to.
A Tourism Investment Seminar had representatives from provinces like KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and North West present on the different upcoming tourist attractions in their regions.

Gauteng
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve (SNR)
The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve will be located in Sedibeng, Gauteng. The project will be a renovation of the nature reserve and the upgrade and maintenance of the visitor facilities. The project will also have accommodation (caravan park and chalet) as well as conference facilities, catering, facilities, a waterpark with outdoor and indoor pools, restaurants and picnic areas. The approximate cost of the is R115 million.
Maropeng Hotel Expansion
This project is located in Maropeng, Gauteng. It is the extension of the existing Maropeng Hotel from 24 rooms to 64 rooms. They are also planning on building a wellness spa area. The project will cost approximately R200 million.
Maropeng Extension
This project is the extension of the existing of the Cradle of Humankind to include a new restaurant and cafe. This project costs about R12 million.
Dinokeng Project
The Dinokeng Project is located in Tshwane, Gauteng. It will be the development of new infrastructure at the Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve. The nature reserve offers environmental education, outdoor recreation services, conferencing facilities and self-catering accommodation. It is a destination that is aimed at the upcoming domestic market and large school groups. This project will cost approximately R150 million.

KwaZulu-Natal
Nonoti Beach Resort
The Nonoti Beach Resort will be based at Nonoti Beach in KwaDukuza just north of Durban. The project will be 3 to 4 star hotels that will accommodate a total of 822 bed with sea views. The resort will also have swimming pools and walkways that will lead to the beach, restaurant facilities and conference facilities. The project costs about R2,5 billion.
Blythedale Coastal Resort
This resort will also be based in KwaDukuza and will have hotels as well as commercial, retail and residential developments. It is expected to generate 10 000 permanent jobs and 110 000 indirect job opportunities over 10 years during the different stages of construction. The project will cost an estimated R500 million. Currently, the housing development is in progress.
Durban Point Development
The Durban POint Development will be located along the Durban Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It will have luxury accommodation, a shopping mall, an office park and tourist facilities. The project costs approximately R35 billion.

Mpumalanga
Blyde Cable Car Project
This project is located at the Thaba Chewu Municipality in Mpumalanga. The project is a cable car that will transport people from the top of a canyon to the peninsula in the middle of the Blyde Dam. There will also be guided and interpreted boat trips as well as adventure activities on the peninsula. The project will cost R275 million.

Bourke's Luck Hotel Project
This project is also located at the Thaba Chewu Municipality in Mpumalanga. The project is a 5 star hotel that will have 80 beds. There will also be a restaurant that will showcase the views of the Blyde River Canyon. The project is expected to cost around R100 million.
North West
Bloemhof Dam development
This development is located at the Bloemhof Dam in the North West. It is a waterfront multi-facility that will have chalets, shops, jetties, a golf course, hydro spa, clubhouse, tennis courts and pool. The waterfront development is aimed at increasing the number of tourists to the Bloemhof. The approximate cost for the project is R1 billion.
Taung Dam and Nature Reserve Development
Taung in the North West will be the location for this project. The new nature reserve at the dam site will have features like two lodges with fifty beds each, a restaurant, hiking trails, a swimming pool and recreation facilities. The project will cost around R100 million.

Eastern Cape
Hole in the Wall Resort
The Hole in the Wall Resort project will be located near Coffee Bay in Mqanduli. This resort will be an accommodation and resort facility. The development will include a 5 star hotel that will accommodate 44 guests, 30x2 and 30x1 self-catering units, staff accommodation, day visitor facilities and a 500 seater conference centre. The estimated cost for the project is R237 million.
