Inflation has quickened to 6.6 percent in November, from 6.4 percent in
October, Statistics SA said on Wednesday.
In a statement,
the government body notes that the headline consumer inflation rate for urban
areas gained 0.2 percentage points month-on-month.
It notes, on
average, prices increased by 0.3 percent between October 2016 and November
2016.
In November, the CPI for goods increased by 7.7 percent
year-on-year (up from 7.1 percent in October), and the CPI for services
increased by 5.6 percent year-on-year (down from 5.8 percent in October).
Provincial annual inflation rates ranged from 5.7 percent
in the Northern Cape to 8 percent in Limpopo.

The body adds transport increased from 0.7 of a
percentage point in October to 1 percentage point in November.
Recreation and culture decreased from 0.3 of a percentage
point in October to 0.2 of a percentage point in November.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed 0.1 of a
percentage point in November.
Transport contributed 0.2 of a percentage point in
November, mainly due to a 45c/l increase in the price of petrol.
