CAPE TOWN - Two major trade unions said they would sign a new wage agreement in the engineering sector, quelling fears of a strike.
Solidarity and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) said that they would sign a three-year wage agreement with the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa today.
Numsa had previously demanded a wage hike of 15% across the board. Last month it had requested a certificate to strike in the engineering sector after wage talks deadlocked.
