Berlin - German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with South African President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday, calling his country “one of the most important partners on the African continent”.
Germany is South Africa's second-most important trading partner, with more than 600 German firms active in the country.
Merkel said bilateral relations were “very good”.
As areas in which even more co-operation were possible, Merkel named the fight against Islamist terrorism, their current energy partnership, science as well as climate policies.
On his first visit to Germany, Zuma also met President Joachim Gauck.
