Johannesubrg – Eskom announced that it would be implementing stage two load shedding on Monday due to constrained electricity supply.

“The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages. Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system,” the power utility said in a statement.

Stage 1 allows for up to 1000MW of the national load to be saved, stage 2 for up to 2000MW, and stage 3 for up to 4000MW.

The load shedding would commence at 4pm and could continue until 10pm Eskom said.

Eskom called on customers to switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliance to reduce electricity demand on the power grid.

“Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms,” the power utility said.
