Pretoria - The South African government is determined to send a positive message about the country to investors via the World Economic Forum (WEF16) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, next week.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting convened by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan between government and business on Friday in Pretoria, Brand South Africa CE Kingsley Makhubela said this meeting was necessary to co-ordinate a solid message to sell the country abroad.

Makhubela said, despite the challenges brought about by the weakening rand, the South African Government is confident WEF16 would be a success for the country.

“We want to inform the investors that South Africa is still a good place to do business. Last year we had challenges of explaining our position and policy on energy. But we have overcome that now,” Makhubela said.

He added practical initiatives undertaken by government to improve the energy and infrastructure industries, as well as the education and automobile sectors, were the cornerstone of their message to attract foreign direct investment.
