SA’s headline CPI slows

Johannesburg - South Africa's headline consumer inflation slowed more than expected to 4.6 percent year-on-year in August compared with 5 percent in July, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, prices were unchanged after increasing by 1 percent previously.

Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, edged lower to 5.3 percent year-on-year in August versus 5.4 percent the previous month, and also slower at 0.2 percent month-on-month from 0.4 percent.
