CAPE TOWN – In a blog post, Google announced that it will be releasing new search features for its Messages app.

This new features will allow users to find specific content types (images, videos, etc.) in all conversations or on an individual-chat basis when tapping the search button.

The menu also displays links to a specific group and one-on-one conversations and any media or links shared within past conversations.

Google confirmed that these improvements to the search function would be available to Android users this week.

"We share a lot of information in our messages, but it’s not always easy to look back and find that photo your mom sent a month ago or the address of the coffee shop your friend recommended. Now you can find more of the content shared in your conversations in Android Messages, by simply searching by contact or type of content," said Natalie Naruns, Product Manager.

This new feature comes after the company recently just made a web-based version of the Messages platform available.

Similar to WhatsApp Web, this allows users with the Messages app to send or receive texts from their PC, verifying the identity of the user via one-time passwords received in the mobile app.
