Spotify to launch a new Wear OS app for your wearable device
CAPE TOWN – Spotify announced that it will be launching a new Wear OS app for your wearable devices.
"Starting today, Spotify's new app for smartwatches on Wear OS by Google takes the work out of your hands (literally) and puts it on your wrist, leaving you free to run, dance, shop, socialize—and control your music at the same time", the company said in a statement.
The new Spotify for Wear OS will feature better controls for music playback and browsing playlists.
It will also add Spotify Connect features that let you play music from your connected speakers.
The app works with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and LTE, so you can listen to music and podcasts from your phone, laptop, Sonos speakers, or any other device you have set up with Spotify Connect.
Unlike the Spotify app for Samsung Gear, it doesn’t yet have offline playback.
Spotify has also announced a partnership with Fossil to preinstall the app on Fossil Gen 4 smartwatches and Michael Kors Access Runway smartwatches starting in November.
You can download Spotify on Google Play here.
“We’re excited to bring improved on-the-go-access to your favorite music and podcasts to millions of Spotify users on Wear OS by Google smartwatches,” says Mikael Ericsson, Senior Product Director at Spotify in a statement.
“Being able to easily access, control, and connect music directly from your wrist opens up a world of new opportunities. We look forward to continuing to improve the Spotify experience in this space.”
