CAPE TOWN - Kano, a company known for creating computer-building kits for children, has partnered with Warner Brothers to unveil Kano’s Harry Potter coding kit.
Kano the company was founded in 2013 by co-founders Alex Klein, Yonatan Raz-Fridman and Saul Klein creating DIY computer kits with interesting learn-to-code projects and with well-designed hardware.
"This kit is our first-ever made with tablets at the forefront and will work with most iOS, Android tablets, as well as Windows and Mac OS machines", said the company in a blog post.
"With 247,000+ members, over 620,000 creations, and 55 million lines of code, Kano World is a thriving free, creative community that lets you see the code behind any piece of artwork, song, game or app and tweak it to make it your own.
We're very excited to introduce a creative tool inspired by a classic franchise, brought to life with sophisticated electronics and software, that you can code yourself", said the company.
Kits like this can be a big benefit as they can be used for real-world uses in modern web design and software development.
The kit combines a motion tracking wand with Kano’s software and the trappings of the Harry Potter world to make learning to code a little more magical.
In line with Kano’s other products, users will be able to build the pieces of the wand, connect over Bluetooth to a computer, iOS, or Android device, and experience over 70 Hogwarts-themed coding challenges.
Features of the wand:
The wand itself features a gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer that together allow for full tracking of the wand in 3D space.
Additionally, users will be able to take the tools and lessons they learn along the way to create their own spells and projects, which they’ll be able to share online with other Kano users.
The Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit is available for pre-order today for $99.99 (R1 350) ahead of an expected October 1st release date.
