INTERNATIONAL - Google Registry has announced that its new .app top-level domain (TLD) is now open for general registration.

This means that you can register your app and its name on Google registry.

What is .app?

According to Google, .app is a secure domain for apps. From games to news to education, .app is the perfect home for your app explains Google.

"A TLD is the last part of a domain name, like .com in “www.google.com” or .google in “blog.google” (the site you’re on right now). We created the .app TLD specifically for apps and app developers, with added security to help you showcase your apps to the world", said Google.

The system is built for app developers and includes added security to help users showcase their applications.

“Because .app will be the first TLD with enforced security made available for general registration, it’s helping move the web to an HTTPS-everywhere future in a big way,” said Google.

Users can visit the get.app website to choose a registrar partner and claim their domain name.

Google said many early adopters have already registered domains for their applications, including grocery delivery app Picnic and travel app Sitata.
