JOHANNESBURG - The Facebook owned messaging app, WhatsApp, crashed earlier today around the world.

Millions of people who use the app took to social media in frustration stating that they could not access the app.

According to the Independent UK, the problem was attributed due to a problem on a server. The website Down Detector showed a huge spike in problems with the app, suggesting that almost everyone is unable to get online. The problems are focused in western Europe and Asia, but were reported across the world, the Independent UK reported.

Take a look at how some people have reacted to the news on Twitter, below:

Earlier this week, the messaging app had released their newest feature, "delete for everyone" which allows you to delete a message before it gets delivered.

This is a developing story, updates will follow.
