London - It may be the world’s best-selling smartphone, but the iPhone 5 is also the slowest among the leading brands, consumer watchdogs say.

Tests to measure processing and memory speed ranked the Apple handset bottom of seven of the most popular phones on the market.

It is slower than both main Samsung models as well as other rivals for popular tasks such as playing games, editing pictures or using apps.

The top-rated phone, the Samsung Galaxy S4, is almost twice as fast, scoring 3,188 points in tests by Which? The iPhone scored 1,664. Which? said it expected Apple to upgrade its next iPhone when it launches this autumn.

The speed ratings were: 1 Samsung Galaxy S4 (3,188), 2 HTC One (2,798), 3 Sony Xperia Z (2,173), 4 Google Nexus?4 (2,134), 5 Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (1,950), 6 BlackBerry Z10 (1,698), 7 Apple iPhone?5 (1,664). - Daily Mail
