The big spenders in the European football transfer window

JOHANNESBURG - According to Thomson Reuters, the English Premier League (EPL) spent the most the most amount of money during the summer transfer window. 

During the window the EPL spent £1.43bn making them the second highest spending industry in the United Kingdom. The most expensive player this season was Romelu Lukaku. His transfer fee from Everton to Manchester United was £76.23m.

At £735m, Serie A spent a lot of money during the summer transfer window period. Leonardo Bonucci was the highest payed player. AC Milan paid £37.30m for the former Juventus player in July 2017.

Ligue 1 spent £590m during their transfer window and ranked as the eighth highest spending industry in France. Ligue 1 club completed a record signing of £199.80m when Brazilian player Neymar moved to French club Paris Saint-Germain.

Germany’s Bundesliga spent £510m during the summer transfer window period. The highest paid player that was brought into the league is Corentin Tolisso. Tolisso who plays for France had a transfer fee of £35.2m and moved from Lyon to Bayern Munich.

£500m was the amount spent by Spanish league La Liga during the summer transfer window. Spanish club Barcelona spent £96 million on French player Ousmane Dembele when he transferred to their club in August 2017.
