WATCH: Innovate Durban Festival hosts young women

DURBAN -  The Innovate Durban festival held a panel discussion with young women from Makhophila Training to discuss careers in technology and engineering.

The young women in attendance are involved in learnerships through Makhophila Training. The women trained in the field of end user computers and business administration.

Some of the panelists included Sarisha Harrychund an engineer from Hatch Africa (Pty) Ltd. and Fundisile Serame from Technofundis who was the facilitator of the panel. 

One of the speakers, from the tech world, spoke about the creation of new careers through technology. One such career field is data science. Data science, according to the panelist is analysed data that may be saved on a storage drives like the Cloud. Google, Amazon and Microsoft offer courses to analyse data.

Harrychund said that mentorship is important and it is something that she is passionate about. According to her, mentorship gives the mentees someone to look up to. 

During the question and answer session, the idea of using the internet to advertise their business and products was heavily discussed. The panel discussed how using sites like Wordpress or using e-commerce, people can advertise their business or product. 

After the panel discussion the young women had a session with one of the four panelists where different topics were discussed from mentorship to building your business.  

Makhosazana Megan Ngiba of Makhophila Training said that the young women apart of the programme receive upliftment, skills development and traing from Makhophila.
