South Africa's Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota will attend the Organisation of African Unity ministerial conference on security, stability, development and co-operation in Nigeria on Monday and Tuesday.

The conference followed a decision in Algiers last year proclaiming the year 2000 to be The Year of Peace, Security and Solidarity in Africa, Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said.

He said the ministers in draft documents recognised that security should be seen in its totality including the rights of people to live in peace with an access to basic necessities and enjoying rights enshrined in the Africa Charter on Human and People's Rights.

The ministers also recognised that stability required that all states be guided by adhering to the rule of law, good governance, respect for human rights, established political parties and people being allowed to participate in public affairs.

Mamoepa said ministers agreed that sustainable growth and economic development be developed by the promotion of economic co-operation and integration. - Sapa
