Orlando Pirates' striker Lesley Manyathela could soon be lost to South African football.

Manyathela, the leading goalscorer in the Castle Premiership with 18 goals last season, has returned from a three-day trial with OFI Crete and is convinced he left a lasting impression at the Greek side.

"I think my chances (of joining them) are good. Everything went well and all will now depend on negotiations between Pirates and OFI," said an elated Manyathela.

His agent Mike Makaab said a final decision will be made "during the course of the week".

The 22-year-old striker did not only make an impression, but was also overwhelmed by the "warm" reception he got from the Greek side. "They welcomed me warmly, and even organised a party attended by all the players before my departure. They were so professional in everything they did."

Pitso Mosimane, the SuperSport United coach, who spent most of his playing career in Greece, says Manyathela, if signed, will adapt perfectly to that country's set-up.

"He is a good striker who will suit their style. The only aspect of his game which he will have to improve on is his mobility because they mark very tightly," says Mosimane, who added that OFI Crete are a mid-table team in the Greek First Division.

"They have always qualified for the Uefa Cup."

Manyathela has rejoined his team-mates ahead of their International Club Challenge against Tottenham Hotspur in Durban this weekend.

It could be the last time he dons the famous black-and-white jersey, though.
