Durban - Protests have erupted at the crash site where three school children were killed at the intersection of Dumisani Makhaye Drive on Wednesday.

The angry community living alongside the road in Lindelani where the crash took place have barricaded two lanes on the Dumisani Makhaye Drive with tyres and set them alight.

They are calling for action to be taken against the minibus taxi driver involved in the crash.

Four school children were walking to school in Newlands  East when the taxi ploughed into them. Three of them died on the scene. The other had been taken to a hospital.

The bodies have been removed from the scene by the state mortuary. Parents and relatives of the deceased are cleaning the road where blood stains were.

The Road Traffic Inspectorate and the police collision were still at the scene conducting investigations.

It is unclear what happened to the driver of the minibus taxi.
