Scrap It

by Jaclyn Venter

(Metz Press, R175)

Scrapbooking is a wonderful hobby. It keeps memories alive and reveals more about the context in which a photograph was taken. That is why a scrapbook album is priceless for future generations. The focus in Scrap It is to create unusual items that can be put on display for all to see or can be used as gifts. Jaclyn Venter scraps on the oddest surfaces: wire hangers, bottles, children’s board books, Starbucks coffee cups, wooden spools and denim pockets. However, I do think it rather unusual to scrap on a muffin baking tray, even if it is a gift and the items are not stuck on. It is definitely scrapping with a difference. I do feel that Jaclyn relies too heavily on Fiskars craft tools (she is a brand ambassador), even though she does say you can use anything you have. – Terrena Rathanlall
