London - If you’re on Facebook, you’ll recognise the type.

The ‘Facebragger’ is an infuriating friend who uses their Facebook profile to boast about their lives, loves and purchases.

They post pictures of their winter Caribbean holiday, dishy new boyfriend and new designer handbag or Mini Cooper with customised numberplate.

But they shouldn’t be so smug. A recent report from insurers Legal & General found thieves have been identifying victims through their Facebook pages.

They warn users of the site not to show off their purchases - whether it be a flat screen TV or a new racing bike - as it might invite thefts from unscrupulous Facebook ‘friends’.

Michael Fraser, a reformed burglar and agony uncle on the BBC’s Beat The Burglar, says criminals have become increasingly adept at mining social networking sites for potential victims.

There is also a danger that by crowing about an upcoming holiday, you alert potential burglars to an empty house.

As with so many things in life, a little modesty goes a long way. - Daily Mail
