David Arquette admits he acted in a “childish” way following his split from Courteney Cox.

The ‘Scream 4’ actor partied hard and admitted sleeping with a cocktail waitress shortly after agreeing to a trial separation from his wife last October, but has since undergone four weeks of rehab for alcoholism and admitted he handled the situation badly.

He told People: “I went through a really hard time, and my way of dealing with it was just to blow it all up. I did act childish, but at the same time I had to – I was really hurt. It was hard for me to deal with this, but what I had to do ultimately was step back and take a look at myself.”

David, 39, and 46-year-old Courteney – who have a daughter Coco, six, together – have maintained a good relationship since they started their trial separation, but she has revealed one of their main problems is his high sex drive.

Referring to David's recent confession that he hit on her during a trip to Disney World, she said: “It was early in the morning. This is one of our problems in our relationship. Whenever I would need consoling from David, he could not literally put his arm around me for one second without completely getting a boner

“So [Disney World] just wasn't the right time and I don't want to confuse the issue. We're going through a hard time.”

David has now been sober for over 100 days and is addressing his issues, in a bid to get his marriage back on track.

He said: “I'm really getting in touch with my feelings, and trying to process them in a more appropriate way. It's easy to numb them, but it's more fulfilling to feel them. I don't have a desire to drink.

“My big deal is me starting to look at who I really am. I was living up to ideals that weren't necessarily who I am. What am I good with? What makes sense for me? Where's my true voice? I'm still learning.”

David and Courteney both star in horror sequel ‘Scream 4’, which is in cinemas now. - Bang Showbiz
