Gig of the week

Blu and Exile

Town Hall, Newtown (tomorrow)

This is the age of music producers crawling out from behind the scenes and aspiring to become artists as well.

Maybe they were becoming increasingly irritated over the years especially because, after a while, the credit is always given to the artist. Who cares about the brains behind the songs?

Who even stops to read the CD's credits anyway?

So that could explain the set-up in the American duo called Blu and Exile. Blu (pictured) is the the rapper in the group and Exile is, you guessed it, the producer.

The two are established solo professionals in their own right, but they put a combined effort into making an album called Below the Heavens, which was a critical success. The album was crowned an underground rap classic.

You can be the judge of that when they perform at the town hall tomorrow. It could be a refreshing switch from the usual Drake, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z sounds.
