London - Bosses who make staff pay for their own drinks at the office party are the biggest irritation for workers in the run-up to Christmas, a study has found.

According to a poll of 2,000 people, having to listen to end-of-year 'motivational' speeches and drunken conversations about work also annoy people during the Christmas party season.

And the poll, carried out by bookings website LateRooms.com, found that three out of four employees would prefer to miss the office party.

The website's spokesman said: 'Many spend the night wishing they were somewhere else.'

The survey revealed that 75 percent of workers dread their Christmas work bash.

The poll found that Thursday and Friday - dubbed 'Mad Friday' - will be the busiest nights in for office parties and Christmas knees-ups, with 40 percent of staff attending bashes on these two evenings

The research has led to the creation of the world's first festive camouflage outfit, designed to help people escape boring parties unnoticed.

LateRooms.com teamed up with a team of camouflage and tech experts to create the 'wearable Christmas Tree', which will allow bored office staff to 'make like a tree' and leave the party unnoticed.

Andrea Tarpey of LateRooms.com said: 'We know everyone loves to party at Christmas but office parties can be really difficult, and many employees spend the night wishing they were somewhere else.

'We anticipate a surge in bookings as people arrange their own bespoke after parties, while others simply can't face the long journey home.

'Life's too short for bad parties, which is why we invented the wearable Christmas tree. We are encouraging people to follow our lead by using our instructions to make their own party escape kit.

'Hopefully our wearable Christmas tree will allow a few people to escape and spend this year's festive season somewhere they'd rather be.'
