London - Katy Perry hasn't heard from Russell Brand since he sent her a text message saying he wanted a divorce.
The couple's marriage ended in December 2011 just 14 months after they tied the knot in India and their split was made legal in July 2012, but the pop star claims she hasn't heard from Russell since he dropped the bombshell news on her.
Speaking in the new US issue of Vogue magazine, she said: “He's a very smart man, a magical man and I was in love with him when I married him. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
Katy accepts their work commitments and especially her hectic schedule for her 'California Dreams Tour' contributed to the failure of the marriage.
However, the 28-year-old singer has hinted there is more to the split than has been revealed, and has suggested 38-year-old Russell couldn't cope being married to a strong woman like her.
Katy said: “I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could ... At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, 'I can't handle it.' He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful. I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like, 'This isn't because of me; this is beyond me.' So I have moved on from that.”
Since her marriage ended, Katy has been in a relationship with musician John Mayer, but that ended in March.
The 'Part of Me' singer has confirmed their on/off romance is definitely “over” even though she is still “madly in love” with John.
She revealed: “It's over ... I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he's got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.”
The singer added that she wants to find a man who will love her "in the right way" and is content to be single at the moment.
She said: "I'm not in a relationship, I'm just on my own - I am myself in my own bed. I have to be happy being alone, and I am happy. I believe that I will be loved again, in the right way. I know I'm worth it."
Katy - who has been getting increasingly close to Robert Pattinson since he split from Kristen Stewart - doesn't want to end up an "emotional widow" and thinks she will find love in the future.
However, she just wants to learn how to cope on her own for now.
Katy added: "I hope I don't have to live as a widow, an emotional widow ... No, I don't believe that. But I think that I can just right now focus on me and focus on strengthening myself and my emotional support system."
