Veteran actor Morgan Freeman is the latest celebrity to be named in the many sexual assault allegations made against Hollywood A-listers in recent months.

CNN on Thursday reported that women had come forward accusing Freeman of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour on movie sets and in other professional settings. According to reports, a total 16 people have come forward: eight accusers and eight witnesses.

The 80-year-old responded to the allegations and apologised "to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected.

Read:

"Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy," the statement reads.

"I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent."

Following news reports, Entertainment Tonight delved into their own archives and unearthed what they claim is "evidence" of Freeman's "inappropriate behaviour" toward female correspondents during interviews.

Freeman, whose careers spans over more than five decades, has multiple projects in the pipeline and it is unclear at this stage if these allegations will effect his work.
