A WOMAN with goals and clear views of her role within society.

A woman who will shine as a role model and ambassador. A woman who is the “full package”.

And while the 12 finalists of the Miss South Africa 2014 pageant may certainly fit this bill of what pageant organisers want from the country’s leading lady, there can only be one winner.

The finalists – who were announced at Sun City on Sunday – come from across the country.

Abigail de Jager (Mpumalanga), Anzél Stofberg (Stellenbosch), Caylene Marais (Roodepoort), Dipalesa Mbola (Bloemfontein), Jade Hubner (Cape Town), Julia Petersen (Durban), Matlala Mokoko (Marogwe, Limpopo), Mishka Patel (Cape Town), Rolene Strauss (Bloemfontein), Tidimalo Sehlako (Vereeniging), Tshegofatso Monggae (Roodepoort) and Ziphozonke Zokufa (Port Elizabeth) will be going to head for the top spot.

Many of the women have completed or are studying towards their business degrees. One finalist, Strauss, is on her way to becoming a medical doctor, one has national colours for netball, and another finalist has worked for a while as a professional singer.

Alison Mckie of Sun International, which presents the pageant, said: “We believe we have a very strong top 12, a group of young women who are passionate about competing, and who have the intelligence and dedication to be a winner.”

About her experience during the shooting of the reality show The Road to Miss SA, which airs on Mzansi Magic on Sundays, Stofberg said: “Magic happens outside of your comfort zone.

“I learnt that by taking chances in life, you develop as a person.

“If you want to grow as a person and be a better you, say yes to risks.”

When asked why she had entered the pageant, Strauss said that, whenever someone said “South Africa”, she would get goosebumps because of her passion for the country.
