The first bottle of Metro FM radio presenter Tbo Touch’s wine has sold for R1.3-million at the third annual AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction, which took place at the weekend.

According to Tbo Touch - real name Thabo Molefe - Touch Warwick Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 was a huge hit with about 15 sommeliers across the country.

The Sowetan quoted Molefe as saying: "They gave it a five-star rating and that's affirmation from the highest society.".

The wine is the result of a partnership between Molefe and Mike Ratcliffe.

Mediterranean Shipping Company’s executive director Sello Rasethaba’s purchase set the record for the highest price paid for a bottle of wine in South Africa at an auction.

The likes of Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula, premium fashion designer David Tlale, Olympian Ryk Neethling, businesswoman Wendy Applebaum and Norma Ratcliffe, who is the first female winemaker winner, were present at the annual event, according to the publication.

Held at Klein Constantia, R15 million was raised to further education in the Cape winelands.

The TouchWarwick website says the business aims to “craft wine that truly represents the merging of South African cultures”.
