It's been nearly three weeks since Durban fitness personality Sbahle Mpisane's BMW collided with a tree and burst into flames.

Despite being in ICU, Mpisane's recovery has been slow and steady and on Sunday she spoke her first words since the high-impact crash. "I want my dad," she told hospital staff.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Mpisane's father, Sbu, said "she's come back to life" and she's "doing well".

"For me she has come back to life. I have said all this time she is a fighter and now she has spoken for the first time,” he said.

“Right now she is doing well and her speaking is a testament to that. I know that she will continue to fight."

The cause of the crash that took place during the early hours of Thursday morning, on 9 August, is still unknown. At the time, Sbu said only Sbahle knows what happened.

It is still not clear what caused the accident. “It’s difficult to say how it happened. No one knows at this point. The fact of the matter is nobody knows what happened except her,” he said.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
