South African singer and media personality, Unathi, is all set and ready to summit to the top of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. The star leaves for Tanzania this weekend.

“I was performing in Swaziland last year and met the dotAfrica CEO, Lucky Masilela, we just started chatting about Africa and he asked me about my love for the continent because I had just been to Mozambique the week before and have been to a number of African states. He also asked me about what’s it like being a musician in the continent, it was a good chat,” Unathi said.

Once their chat was over, Masilela told Unathi about dotAfrica and asked her to be a ambassador for the platform. “When he told me what dotAfrica was I said .

For the longest time as a continent we have given so much of ourselves away, and it’s time we kept what ours, from our skills, our money and our jobs. dotAfrica is about moving Africa to the next digital phase by us having our very own top level domain,” she said.

After agreeing to be an ambassador, the star was asked to summit to Mount Kilimanjaro to which she “casually said yes”.

“The campaign is a continental one which means it needed to be every country, so with the partnerships we have, many heads of states felt that the dotAfrica flag needed to go to every country and then to the highest point in Africa. When I was asked I just said yes without even thinking about,” said Unathi.

After realising what she had agreed to doing, she said she immediately started preparing for the summit. “This was all happening last year, so I naively started working out on the physical aspect, I changed my trainer and started doing a lot more cardio work.

In the last six months I then started working on mental strength, I spoke to people who did do the summit, asked them to coach me and just take me through everything , Now I am ready,” she said.

Unathi said that she can’t wait to have her silence with God when she does reach the top. “I am no fool, I know that it is going to be difficult, I mean I am still asking myself why I am doing this but I am very excited, my kids are also very excited for me. I think it is going to be an amazing experience,” she said.

Earlier this month the star shared some behind the scene images on her social media of the video shoot for her single, Nguwe, off her latest album.

“It was shot in downtown Joburg and it's all about love and intimacy and I enjoyed shooting it. When i get back home towards the end of the month is when we are looking at releasing the video”, she said.
