Idols judge and Metro FM presenter Somizi Mhlongo wants to be an agent for change. The ‘Whoo Shem’ star took to Instagram, announcing that he will be donating R20 per unit sold of his memoir ‘Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit' to sponsor first year students.
“Changing South Africa one person at a time. Thanks to all that are supporting my dreams coz through u I'm able to support other ppls dreams izandla ziyagezana. #DOMINOES about to go gold.
”God blesses us to bless others. I want to live a life with a purpose and leave a legacy. With my book approaching ten thousand units, thanks to you. I spoke to my management and want to donate R20 from each book...I want to help 2-4 matriculants, to pay for their first year varsity fees…” he said on the video.
Somizi is following in the footsteps of his former BFF Bonang Matheba who helped a lot of needy students through her Bonang Matheba Bursaries.
This initiative by Somizi adds to the elements he and Bonang share in common: both their books are currently among Mzansi's best sellers and they are at the peak of their careers.
Perhaps Somizi will follow suit and launch his own foundation.
"I don't usually comment on celebrities post but [email protected] touched me. I'm a student too and I know what you are talking about every year in January you'll find students being excluded because of finance and also queuing at school offices to negotiate.May God bless you..." added another.
"May God bless you man. You truly are an inspiration," commented another.
