Writer/director/actor Ed Burns takes a back seat in his latest film, Nice Guy Johnny.

This time around he leaves the leading role to newcomer Matt Bush and plays the uncle who leads his nephew astray.

The Johnny of the title is unsure whether to follow his heart or his head. He loves his job as a sports show host, but his ambitious girlfriend believes he could be so much more.

Burns wrote and directed Nice Guy Johnny, shooting on a tiny budget, and it debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival last year.

Do not confuse this writer with the writer of the same name who worked on the tv show The Wire. This Burns wrote, directed and starred in the ensemble piece, She’s the One, acted in Saving Private Ryan and season three of Entourage.

He’s married to Christy Turlington and won the Best Director prize for this film at the Boston Film Festival last year.
