Is Lira the biggest star in South Africa? If your answer is in the affirmative then you’re halfway to winning a great prize.

Fresh from her first inter-national tour, this dynamic human being presents the country with The Captured Tour in association with Nokia.

The tour runs from September 30 to October 29. Tonight is giving away a pair of tickets in each region. The winning couple will also be chauffeur-driven by Audi to the concert from their homes. The prize includes a deluxe DVD set, Return to Love, and a meet and greet with the superstar after the concert.

Her first show is at Carnival City on Friday, September 30. She then moves to Port Elizabeth on Sunday, October 9 when she will play at the Boardwalk Casino Festive Lawn Area. On October 22 she is in Durban at the ICC before gracing Cape Town with her presence on October 26 at The Grand West Casino. The tour culminates on October 29 at Sun City.

Tickets are available countrywide from Computicket from R130 upwards.

The shows are set to be the finest her fans have seen. Songs from all her albums as well as new arrangements and additions to her classics will bring a new element of surprise not to be missed. The shows will culminate in a DVD recording at the Sun City Superbowl.

“When you have your own show you can do whatever you want. I have two hours to work in,” said Lira. “I am taking the audience through a whole musical journey. I put a lot of love and care into my shows.”

Of her backing band, Lira said: “I never wanted a good band. I wanted a cooking band. Its a very solid band. It’s small but abso-lutely powerful.”

Lira also said that her tour of the US and Europe went excep-tionally well. “I did eight tribute shows to Miriam Makeba with Hugh Masekela and Thandiswa Mazwai in Europe and then three of my own shows.

“In the US we sold out in Washington, New York, Indianapolis and Philadelphia. Our last stop was in Los Angeles. That was a highlight in terms of the cross-section of audience. There were Latinos, African Americans, white Americans. It was amazing.”

The American tour went so well that she is planning a 60-day tour in February next year and a CD release.

In the meantime, we South Africans can look forward to The Captured Tour.
