The making of Musa Sukwene’s hit single Umthande’s music video.

Idols 2013 winner, Musa Sukwene invited IOL for a behind-the-scenes look at the music video shoot for his hit single Mthande from his latest album Mr Serious.

The song is a collaboration with the legendary Robbie Malinga.

Filming took place on location at the prestigious Steyn City; an ideal setting for this romantic sojourn for the couple with its picturesque parkland settings, picnic spots, and outdoor retreats. With its 2000 acres of pristine parkland interconnected by a network of walkways and boulevards leading onto a host of lifestyle and outdoor amenities, it provided the perfect backdrop for the romantic ballad.

The song encourages men to love, honour, compliment and respect the women in their lives.

The 29-year-old Witbank-born singer entered Idols for the experience, but ended up stealing the spotlight, and subsequently won the hearts of millions of fans across South Africa. He then moved to Johannesburg to pursue his music career and he has set his goals of releasing an album and pursuing a career in radio.

“This is the first collabo, where we said we're doing a collaboration together. Other collabos (I’ve had) with Kelly Khumalo, Zahara, Naima Kay came as I was writing songs for them. When I write a song for you, I will do a guide, like 'I need you to sing like this', and the artist will eventually suggest we do a song together. But this was not the case with 'Mthande',” Malinga said, as he beamed with excitement.

Musa added: "I met Robbie three or four years ago. He became a friend, a brother and a mentor as time went on. So, as we were working on my album, I needed to have a collaboration that was outside of the norm. And for me, to work with him was a life-changing experience."

On whether they expected 'Mthande' to enjoy such a massive reception from fans, Sukwene says: “Everything happened so fast that the song became bigger than us."

"We didn't even want this song to be the first single," said Malinga, adding that the succes of the song on iTunes, at retail stores and with radio audiences prompted the pair to keep pace with it. "That's why we had to rush and do a video!"

Malinga added that they appreciate the public for showing their support.

"The song is becoming bigger than our plans," he smiled.

Here's a behind the scenes video of the 'Mthande' single.
