Prayers and well wishes are pouring in for Generations: The Legacy actor Rapulana Seiphemo who was critically injured in a car crash that claimed two lives and injured three others. A few minutes before 10pm on Sunday evening two vehicles collided on the N14 near the R55, near Diepsloot, North of Johannesburg.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found one vehicle in the middle of the road and the other was found amongst bushes on the side of the road.

ER24 Spokesman Russel Meiring said the other injured people had moderate injuries as were improving steadily.

Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, sent out a statement urging South Africans to pray for the actor, who plays Tau Mogale, as well as the other injured passengers.

“Rapulana Seiphemo is in our prayers. Together as a nation let us give him and the other injured people our collective strength to pull through, to recover and to return to lead their full daily lives. Let us hold hands with their families and friends for there is strength in numbers, endurance and resilience,” he said.

Professor Ken Boffard, who has been treating Seiphemo at Milpark Hospital told the SABC: “He came in in an absolutely critical condition. There is no doubt that the paramedics probably saved his life on [the] scene... [He] came in critically unstable. This morning his condition is critical, but stable. He is undergoing further surgery this afternoon.”

The ER24 spokesman said about the accident: “On inspection, paramedics found that three people had been inside each vehicle. On assessment, paramedics found that two men, one from each vehicle, had sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

“Four other patients were found on scene, two of them critically injured. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, both critically injured patients were airlifted by a private medical helicopter to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.”

Meiring added that it was always good to hear of the good work the ER24 paramedics are doing.”Our paramedics work very hard and are very skilled. We want to thank our paramedics as well as the other services that arrived first on the scene for the work that they did,” he said.
