Over the years, there have been a few edutainment shows that are focused on the youth. But not many have stayed true to the entertainment part of edutainment.
MTV Shuga, thankfully, is both educational and so entertaining even some of us older folks are invested in the storylines.
"MTV Shuga: Down South" is based in South Africa even though it has a pan-African element. It focuses on high school learners and young adults who are trying to navigate growing up, sex and sexuality amongst other important things.

The show is also big on giving young actors a chance to flex their talents. There’s Thuso Mbedu, Given Stuurman, Vanessa Mdee and others. You might have seen Lupita Nyong'o on it before she was walking Oscar red carpets.
You can submit your audition via video online through the mtvshuga.com website or you can audition in Jozi and Durban. Audition on August 25 at Zone 6 Venue in Johannesburg or on August 26 at Olive Convention Centre in Durban.
Registrations open at 0.30 for auditions will close at 15:30 on the day, with no exceptions.
