He was cautious, yet very cunning, and it paid off for Hykie Berg who was announced as the winner of Survivor South Africa: Maldives.

The well-known 33 year old actor, who plays Dr Conrad Bester in kykNET’s Binneland, broke down on stage when host Nico Panagio revealed that he won. And after giving his competitor, 26 year old biokineticist Letshego Moshoeu, a massive hug, he was congratulated by his fellow contestants.

Interestingly enough, plebs Tejan Pillay, who was the biggest thorn in Berg’s side with his “treachery”, and Harry Wiggins surprisingly cast their ballots in favour of the actor.

Berg said his wins will go towards “an investment, writing his second book and going to Israel in December”.

He adds: “And, no, I’m not buying a car. I am going to buy my mum lots of flowers and take a lot of people out to a good bloody supper.”

On his comments at the previous tribal council, where they had to convince the jurors why they deserved to win, Berg bigheartedly said Moshoeu deserved to win.

Simon Coetzee posed an interesting question: “Do you want to be Hykie the noble guy or Hykie the ultimate survivor?”

Berg chose the latter and the results confirmed this. He walked away a millionaire and with an award for Best Lead Actor from Alison De Chazal, who was smiling as well as she drove off in a brand new brand-new Volvo V70 sports wagon.
