New biblical drama series, Abomama, premiered last night on television screens, on DSTV channel 161. 

The drama series focuses on the lives of a group of church-going women who use the stokvel money as a money laundering scheme, in an effort to increase their ranks in the church community. The television series circulates on the themes of sin, power and status, family and greed. 

The titular characters of the church women are played by actresses Khanyi Mbau, Nokuthula Ledwaba, Masechaba Mtolo nee Moshoeshoe, veteran actress Joyce Skefu, and newcomer Unathi Guma. 

Twitter users spoke highly of the first episode, making special mention of Khanyi Mbau's ever growing versatility as an actress.

Abomama is sure to stay on the minds of South Africans if the follow-up episodes are as good as the drama series first episode.
