Another heartbreaking episode of Mzansi Magic’s reality show Yobe, brought with it the harsh realities and the consequences of abusive relationships in our society.

Mahlatse Mokoena requested for an opportunity to ask for forgiveness from his former abusive lover’s family after she “accidentally” shot and killed him during a scuffle in 2013.

Mahlatse, who has a son with the deceased, explained how the events of the day leading to the fatal killing of her lover unfolded. “Ronnie was very abusive,” she said.

“On that fatal day he (Ronnie) came to fetch me at a spot where we were chilling with my friends... gun in hand.”

She continued to explain that the boyfriend shoved her in the car and beat her. Upon reaching his grandmother’s place, he continued to beat her, and it was during the struggle that the gun went off, that gunshot left Ronnie fatally wounded.

Mahlatsi said she ran away and threw the gun away. She later confessed to the shooting.

The deceased's mother, MaMahlangu was clearly still very angry that she lost son. But it was her comments about Mahlatse killing her son because he merely slapped her that left all of us slightly astounded. Was MaMahlungu condoning the beating of women, or was she lost in translation?

She killed her abuser.

I'd rather live in prison knowing I got justice than become a hashtag🙌

I'm conflicted by this episode. This woman killed her abuser in self defence with HIS gun & uabuser's mom says "JUST FOR A SLAP"! 😲 & demands a DNA test!

I wonder if she ever stopped her son during the abuse? & if the offender has dealt with her pain of abuse

This relationship was tough. It got to a point where it was either her or that guy #YobeMzansi

Mahlatse seemed to to be truly remorseful about that day, and cried almost hysterically the moment she walked into the room that the Victim Offender Dialogue was held in.

The highlight of the show though was how fashionable Mahlatse was — her gold painted sneakers, a gold choker, matte lipstick, makeup on point and ‘Burberry’ nails, became the centre stage.

Mogherl is on fleek while in jail👏😂 #YobeMzansi pic.twitter.com/Hin4chsXnx

What did you make of the episode? Do you believe Mahlatse acted in self defense?
