Less than two weeks after the local soapie Muvhango celebrated its 20th anniversary, an employee appeared in court this week for allegedly stealing R3 million from the the production's petty cash.

According to Sowetan, the unnamed male employee is facing fraud and theft charges after he allegedly created fictitious service providers. It is alleged that he used the petty cash to make payments into his own account while pretending to pay service providers.

The case was reportedly postponed to 17 October for plea and bail application, while the suspect remains in custody.

Meanwhile, the show suffered another loss. This after Sindi Dlathu, who plays Thandaza on Muvhango, announced that she was leaving the soapie after being with the production since its inception.

“Muvhango has been more than a job to me, it has been my life for 20 years and I’ve loved and cherished every single moment of playing Thandaza,” she said.

"After 20 years I’ve decided to give the Thandaza character a break in order for me to grow as an artist, venture out to explore new opportunities and discover what I can do as an actress and as a human being."

Her last episode will be aired in March next year.
