Johannesburg - He had Cape Town “Beliebers” in hysteria on Wednesday – and Sunday night will be no different for Joburg fans of pop sensation Justin Bieber.

The 19-year-old Canadian singer will perform to a 90 000 sold-out crowd at the FNB stadium in Joburg.

Bieber arrived in the country on Tuesday ahead of his performance at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

The teenage sensation is touring South Africa as part of his worldwide Believe Tour and will perform his final concert in South Africa on Sunday before flying out of the country on Monday to continue his tour in San Diego, California.

Bieber went through several costume changes during his 80-minute set, each one a variation of leather dropped crotch trousers with white boxers peeking from the waistband and his ever-present sleeveless vest.

Pandemonium ensued throughout the 65 000-strong crowd at Cape Town Stadium when Bieber emerged shirtless for the final stretch of the show, flexing his hard-won but still slight body through hits from the Believe album – Boyfriend and As Long as You Love Me.

Bieber is said to be enjoying himself in South Africa, after he tweeted a handful of times that he was loving his time in the country.

He made a special mention of former Nelson Mandela on Twitter, as he tweeted: “Nelson Mandela is the man #Believe”.

Bieber, who stayed at the One & Only hotel, for his time in Cape Town also enjoyed a game drive this week.

He tweeted a picture of an elephant he had spotted.

His concert on Sunday night at FNB stadium will also be a very special one for Bieber as it falls on Mother’s Day.

Bieber tweeted that he planned to go all out to spoil his mother Pattie Malette on Sunday.

Bieber was first noticed as a performer on YouTube by Scooter Braun, a former marketing director at Rap label So So Def, after his mother posted videos of him competing in a music competition.

Braun connected Bieber with Usher and his music career was launched.

His debut extended play, the seven-track My World, was released in November 2009 and was certified platinum in the US.

He became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Bieber’s first full-length studio album, My World, was released in March 2010. It debuted at or near No 1 in several countries and was certified platinum in the US.

It was preceded by the worldwide top 10 single Baby.

He followed up the release of his debut album with his first headlining tour, the My World Tour, the remix albums My Worlds Acoustic and Never Say Never, and the 3D biopic-concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.

Bieber released his second studio album Under the Mistletoe in November 2011, which made its debut at No 1 on the Billboard 200.

His third studio album Believe was issued on June 19, last year, and became his fourth chart topper in the US.

Bieber has received numerous awards, including artist of the year at the 2010 and 2012 American Music Awards, and was nominated for best new artist and best pop vocal album at the 53rd Grammy Awards.

Bieber was named by Forbes magazine last year as the third most powerful celebrity in the world. - Saturday Star
