Vivek Oberoi seems to be very scarce in the film industry these days. While some critics might be comfortable assuming the model-turned-actor has decided to call it quits, he has not.

Rumour has it that Oberoi has just landed the lead role in director Shekhar Kapur's mega-budget bilingual movie, Paani (Water). For those who, although, hard to believe, are not very familiar with the actor, Oberoi has appeared in memorable flicks like Saathiya, an inspiring romance, and Company, which zooms in on the gritty underworld figures.

Presently, Kapur and Oberoi are ironing out nitty-gritty details to avoid any clashes with dates for the shooting of the movie, which starts at the beginning of next year.

A teaser for fans - the storyline, penned by Andrew Niccol (renowned for Hollywood hit The Truman Show), is set 25 years in the future. No surprises here, but A R Rehman has been roped in to the project to compose the music.

- Phew, it certainly was a close call between A-list actresses - Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai - bagging the female lead in Rituparno Ghosh's next biggie.

Initially, Rai, due to her hectic schedule, was unable to juggle prior commitments to fit the project into her workload. However, just when is seemed like an impossible task for Rai to achieve, she managed to successfully pull it off. Not good news for Kapoor, I am sure.

Anyway, the untitled film, sees Rai pairing up with Ajay Devgan. With those two having delivered an awe-inspiring performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, fans are allowed the liberty of being a bit cocky and confidently banking on this movie, which focuses on the intimate relationship between a couple, being a sure-fire hit.

- Film buffs curious about how Sanjay Dutt's Sarhad Paar is coming along can rest assured that the shooting is on schedule and there have been no serious glitches hindering production.

Word has it that Dutt recently enjoyed a successful three-week shoot, which saw several pivotal scenes completed.

Other co-stars in the action movie, which is expected for an early release next year, include Tabu, Mahima Chaudhary and Chandrachur Singh.

- The South African audiences are not the only ones raving about the recent release of Baghban, the British Asian audiences are lapping it up.

According to reports, the emotional family drama holds the No 12 position at the British box-office. Who knows, while you are probably reading this, it might be still climbing up the chart.

For those who have not had a chance to check out the movie, which stars Bollywood's finest - Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Mahima Chaudhary, pencil it in as one of the "must dos" on your weekend "fun-time" schedule.
