Die Ander Marta, an Afrikaans play written by Eleanor Baker that deals with female empowerment, will be previewed at the Bellville Amateur Theatre (BAT) this month before making its way to the Little Karoo National Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn.

The tagline to the play reads: "Is the abused woman a foregone conclusion or is it time that women make themselves heard?"

Baker's tale deals with a woman who, to the outside world, appears to be on top of the world, but who suddenly does something quite unexpected which surprises all and sundry.

Celeste van Rooyen has adapted the work to the stage and Albert Maritz directs a cast that includes Van Rooyen, Deon Lotz, Chris Majiedt, Adri Troskie-Vivier, Hannetjie Smit, Trix Vivier, Jacobi de Villiers and Dean van der Ventel.

Music for the play will be provided by Clarabelle. At an experimental performance at the Baxter, Die Ander Marta received a standing ovation.

The play previews at the BAT Theatre on March 17 and 18 at 8pm. Tickets are R30.

It will be performed at the Laerskool Van Reede during the Little Karoo Arts Festival on March 25 at 10am and 1.30pm, March 26 at 8.30pm, March 27 at 10am, March 28 at 8.30pm and March 29 at 10am.
